Visa Information
ENTRY VISA TO ERITREA
———————————————————— ERITREAN ID HOLDERSAlthough Eritrean National ID holders do not require an Entry Visa to travel to Eritrea, we advise travelers to contact the Consulate for updated information prior to organizing their trip. However, an Exit Visa should be obtained from the Immigration Office in Asmara – Eritrea prior to departure from Eritrea. Application to obtain exit visa needs to be lodged at least one week before the day of departure. In most cases exit visas are valid for multiple exits for seven years.

Tourist Visa application received and prepared at this office is submitted to the Immigration Office in Asmara – Eritrea for further processing and approval. Applicants are required to submit the following at the initial stage of application:
Applicants are advised not to proceed with sending original passports, making payment, or purchasing air ticket before visa application is approved. However, it should be done immediately after the application is approved and you have been contacted and advised to do so by the Consulate.
When visa is approved applicants will be contacted and requested to submit the following:
FAMILY VISIT VISAThis is an application for individuals of Eritrean Origin who do not hold an Eritrean National ID or individuals of non-Eritrean origin who wish to visit family members or friends who reside in Eritrea. Eritrean origin is required to apply for their Eritrean citizenship card. After applying for Eritrean ID, you will be able to obtain visa by completing the visa application.

Tourist Visa application received and prepared at this office is submitted to the Immigration Office in Asmara – Eritrea for further processing and approval. Applicants are required to submit the following at the initial stage of application:
- Complete visa application form ==> FORM
- Copy of Passport (Valid for at least six months)
- To Apply (Applicants from Toronto should come in person and for applicants from outside GTA you can send your application via our email [email protected])
- Tentative itinerary showing the date of arrival to Eritrea
Applicants are advised not to proceed with sending original passports, making payment, or purchasing air ticket before visa application is approved. However, it should be done immediately after the application is approved and you have been contacted and advised to do so by the Consulate.
When visa is approved applicants will be contacted and requested to submit the following:
- Original Passport (validity of at least six months)
- one passport size photo (45x 35mm colored, white background, only prescription glasses allowed and only religious related hats or scarves allowed.)
- Fee Payment $65.00 CAD for Regular and $80.00 urgent. Under age, is 32.50 regular and $40.00 CAD.
- A self-addressed prepaid return envelope – preferably registered mail(FedEx, UPS etc.)
FAMILY VISIT VISAThis is an application for individuals of Eritrean Origin who do not hold an Eritrean National ID or individuals of non-Eritrean origin who wish to visit family members or friends who reside in Eritrea. Eritrean origin is required to apply for their Eritrean citizenship card. After applying for Eritrean ID, you will be able to obtain visa by completing the visa application.
- Complete visa application ==> FORM
- Original Passport (Validity of at least six months)
- Clear copy of a current passports
- Four photos (35x45mm colored, white background, only prescription glasses allowed and only religious related hats or scarves allowed.)
- Clear copy of parents Eritrean ID (both sides) (If both parents are Eritrean)
- If copy of both parents ID cannot be provided, applicant must provide three witnesses (above the age of 40 and holders of Eritrean ID) or authorize a person residing in Eritrea to verify nationality by acting on behalf of them ==> FormB81.9(ቅጺ-ምስክርነት_ዜግነት)
- Payment 30 CAD + 20.00 CAD for every year after the age of 20, it must be money order or bank drafted check etc.
You will submit the following to obtain your visa: –

- *Please keep in mind that, it will take 48 to 72 hours for your visa to be issued. *

- Payment Visa fee are paid to the nature of your trip, for example for Single entry $95.00 CAD, urgent $110.00CAD. Multiple entry $130.00CAD and urgent is $150.00CAD.
- A self-addressed prepaid return envelope – preferably registered post (FedEx, UPS etc..)
- Tentative date of arrival in Eritrea
- A complete Business/Employment visa application ==> FORM
- One passport size photo (45x 35mm colored, white background, only prescription glasses allowed and only religious related hats or scarves allowed.)
- Original Passport (validity of at least six months)
- A self-addressed prepaid return envelope – preferably registered post (FedEx, UPS etc…)
- Itinerary showing the date of arrival to Eritrea.
IMPORTANTEritrean applicants whose:
- Eritrean National ID is lost or misplaced at the time of travel
- New Eritrean National ID application is still being processed
- Other
- The original Passport (Validity of at least six months)
- Copy of Eritrean National ID (if applicable)
- A complete visa application ==> FORM
